Recorded in the spring of 1994 on four-track cassette deck. All band takes recorded live onto three separate microphones placed around the room (no close miking). Overdubs mostly or all recorded onto the one remaining track, with numerous things sometimes performed at once.

Originally released on CD in 1995, Sympathy for the Record Industry.

The verse melody and harmony of "Spiral Stairs" is based on the song "Crusade" by the Godz, ca. 1967 (Dillon, Kessler, McCarthy, Thornton).
